Beat Mode turns a music track into a video where everything moves in time with the beat. Upload a song, let SoundMadeSeen detect the beats, then design a video with effects, text, and images that pulse, flash, and dance in sync with the music.
The flow has four steps: upload audio > detect beats > design your video > export.
1. Upload your track
Start from Beat Mode > Upload (or try it without an account at https://soundmadeseen.com/free-beat-mode).
- Upload a single audio file - MP3, WAV, or M4A, up to 2 GB.
- Free accounts can use tracks up to 5 minutes long. Paid plans support tracks up to 90 minutes.
- Tracks with a clear rhythm give the best beat detection results.
- Beat Mode currently works in Chrome, Edge, and Safari. Firefox isn't supported yet. Beat Mode uploads skip transcription - if you want lyrics on screen, you'll add them in the lyrics step below.
2. Beat detection
After upload, SoundMadeSeen analyses your track automatically. This usually takes under a minute; you'll see a progress bar while it works. When detection finishes you'll see:
- Total beats and BPM for the track.
- A beat timeline - a colour-coded strip of every detected beat, from blue (weaker beats) to red (stronger beats).
- Stats - average beat interval and a confidence score.
- A Detailed Analysis panel showing results from each detection algorithm (spectral flux, onset detection, and energy analysis). If the results don't look right, click Regenerate Beats to run detection again. Your beat data is saved, so you can come back to this page later without re-analysing.
From here, click Continue to Beat Mode Editor, or choose Add lyrics first.
3. Add lyrics (optional)
Lyrics are optional - you can skip this step entirely. If you add them, they appear in your video as beat-synced subtitles.
There are three ways to add lyrics:
- Paste and auto-align (paid plans) - paste your lyrics as plain text and SoundMadeSeen aligns each word to the audio automatically. Auto-alignment uses your plan's transcription minutes.
- Upload a subtitle file (paid plans) - upload an `.srt` or `.vtt` file that already contains timings.
- Place words manually *(all plans)* - click the waveform to place each word, then drag words to fine-tune their timing.
4. Design in the Beat Mode editor
The Beat Mode editor is the full SoundMadeSeen editor with extra beat-powered tools.
The first time you open it, a short walkthrough introduces the layout, and the Inspire Me dialog offers AI-generated styles to start from.
Beat effects
Full-canvas animated effects that fire on every beat.
Pick from:
- Shader effects - Fireworks, Smoke, Shader Boxes, Shader Tunnel (a kaleidoscopic tunnel with RGB colour separation)
- Particles - Confetti Burst
- Geometric - Expanding Circles, Kaleidoscope, Hexagonal Tessellation, Koru (unfurling spirals), Moire Wave Grid, Energy Waves, Tukutuku (fractal triangle patterns), and Grid Beat Squares Every effect has its own settings - colours, particle counts, speed, size, and more. Not sure what you want? Hit Randomize to swap in a random effect.
Object beat modifiers
Any element on the canvas other than videos - text, images, or shapes can react to the beat. Choose from Scale, Bounce, Shake, Stomp, Glitch, Neon, and Flame. Neon and Flame have their own glow and flame colour controls.
FX overlays
Cinematic overlays you can layer on top: Vignette, Film Grain, Scratch (triggered on beats), Light Leak, Colour Tint, and Scanlines - each with adjustable intensity.
Everything else
All the standard editor tools are available too: backgrounds (including background videos), text, shapes, images, slideshows, waveforms, progress bars, subtitles, and audio settings.
5. Export your video
Click Save & Export in the editor header.
- Free accounts render the video in your browser. Free videos include a small watermark and expire after 30 days.
- Paid plans can choose between rendering in the browser or on our servers (tracks over 10 minutes always render server-side). Paid videos have no watermark, never expire, and export in higher quality.
When the render finishes you land on your video page, where you can watch, download, share, or jump back into the editor.
Trying Beat Mode without an account
The free Beat Mode tool lets you upload a track (up to 5 minutes) and see your beats detected without signing up. When you're ready to design and export the video, you'll be asked to create a free account - your uploaded track and detected beats carry over automatically.
